St Hilda’s Statue & The Holy Family

  A Commemorative Statue for St Hilda’s Community Church, Watford.

In August 2009 I was asked to consider accepting a commission to create a new commemorative statue of St Hilda for the 25th anniversary of the Community church of St Hilda in the parish of All Saints Leavesden, Watford.

The design was based on research drawn from several stained glass windows and traditional images of the Saint who lived 614-680 and was the founding abbess of Whitby monastery and was an important figure in the conversion of England to Christianity.

The statue, which stands 40cm tall, was presented to the congregation by Revd Chris Davey on their 25th anniversary and also on the occasion of the licensing of Revd Martin Brown to that parish on Sunday November 22nd 2009.

‘The Holy Family’ - Mary & Joseph figures.

The Holy Family figures were designed for Christmas 2009 in response to a suggestion for a more Christian-themed and iconic style of Christmas item/ nativity scene. They stand approximately 24cm tall.
